Fiction vs. non-fiction

When I tell people I’m a writer, I always get the “what do you write” question. I typically say “a little of everything.” And it’s pretty much true.

Years ago I would have said: “Fiction. All the way, baby!”

And yet even then I was writing sales letters, writing ad copy, coming up with marketing campaigns for my dad’s business. At the ripe ol’ age of 15. But I thought of myself as a fiction writer. Because when I would write, and write for myself, it was fiction. Stories. Lots of stories. And a few years ago I finally finished my book, Gina Agnes.

But as the years went by, I found myself writing marketing material and non-fiction articles more often.

I still love fiction. And I have the Gina Agnes sequel written out…in my head. Along with a book called Mount Grace. And a couple screenplays.

But, and this was especially after getting my Master’s in Business Administration several years ago, I discovered that I love business and marketing. And I particularly love writing.

It’s interesting how my loves, passions and tastes have evolved. I still have my fiction…but me likes my non-fiction oh so much.
