For Sale: Home plus heart

Every so often, you hear about a wacky marketing ploy in the news. The latest? A woman selling her house and her heart.

Some people will think she’s insane, others – genius.

I don’t know if she’s either, but she sounds like a woman with imagination. Of course, my imagination just runs to all the freaks she will be now contacted by…

Just like any other marketing tactic, it’s not for everyone. And that’s okay. My real estate clients always wanted to know what they could do to fix up their home before placing it on the market. I would give them advice while reminding them that it all boiled down to the buyer. And not all buyers are alike. Some buyers hate carpet. Others despise tile. You just can’t please ‘em all.

So this lady who’s peddling her home…maybe her home won’t entice the right man, but perhaps her picture and her apparent moxie will. Of course, she’s cutting out some huge markets. What about couples, or gay and lesbian buyers? If you look purely at her current marketing tactic, she has whittled down her target market to a very specific demographic. Typically, not a smart business move.

But she HAS received the public attention and some marketers say that bad attention is attention and all attention is good. I don’t agree 100%, but I get the idea behind it.

More power to the lady with a creative selling point. I hope she gets some dates and some decent offers (on the house, I mean).
