Writing ideas aplenty

While I have a tendency to write in specific fields due to my background and expertise, I still get tons of writing ideas on all sorts of topics…like how to customize a frozen pizza.

So what’s a writer to do with all those ideas floating around in her head? Well, write and then put them out there in the world so people can read ‘em, of course!

I keep a running list of short article ideas. Most of these ideas are clearly short, online content fodder only. Definitely not worth the time and energy to write on spec and then submit to publications with query letters.

As the ideas come, I just add them to my running list in Word. When I type an article up, I cross that idea off the list. I know, pretty basic.

The ideas can come from anywhere. The customized pizza idea? That one came from my husband. He can take the most basic of frozen pizzas and just add a couple of items from the cupboard and fridge and a quarter of an hour later - an ultra tasty pizza emerges from the oven. Sick, but oh so true.

I’ve contemplated creating a separate site to sell those articles that have little to do with my “normal” writing work. But why reinvent the wheel? For now, I’m trying out Associated Content. I wrote some articles on there years ago…so long ago that I don’t even remember my login. So I’m starting from scratch. But that’s less work then cranking out another website that I’ll have little time to take care of.

My next shorty (my new name for a short article) might be on Mommy Group Etiquette. Or maybe it will be on How to Design a Memorial Tombstone. Yep, my interests go from one end of the spectrum to the other.

How about you – any good ideas to share?
